With the 2012-13 NHL season cut short by the lock-out, Upper Deck and Panini decided to not release rookie cards for all players who debuted in 2012-13. That strategy resulted in the ‘Double Rookie Class’ for 2013-14. Similar to 2005-06, if you’re a rookie card collector, this is the season for you.

Here’s a list of some players that you can expect to see in 2013-14 products:

  • Brendan Gallagher
  • Dougie Hamilton
  • Alex Galchenyuk
  • Nathan Beaulieu
  • Petr Mrazek
  • Martin Jones
  • Filip Forsberg
  • Aleksander Barkov
  • Mikhail Grigorenko
  • Morgan Rielly
  • Jonathan Huberdeau
  • Seth Jones
  • Vladimir Tarasenko
  • Valeri Nichushkin
  • Jacob Trouba
  • Nathan MacKinnon
  • Justin Schultz
  • Nail Yakupov
  • Sean Monahan
  • Emerson Etem
  • Tomas Hertl

And all of the 2013-14 rookie cards are available in various Upper Deck and Panini products from Canada Card World.

Richard McWilliam, co-founder and CEO of The Upper Deck Company, died unexpectedly at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California on  January 5, 2013. He was only 59 years old.

Richard McWilliam is often credited with transforming the sports trading card business by growing Upper Deck to become one of the leading sports trading card businesses and then expanded to become a major sports and entertainment company.

Mr. McWilliam served until his death as Upper Deck’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Jason Masherah, the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Upper Deck, has been fulfilling the duties of President, and has now been formally named President of Upper Deck.

Often a polarizing figure in the trading card community, Mr. McWilliam leaves behind his wife and their three children.

For years, collectors visiting the semi-annual Sports Card Expo in Toronto have faithfully purchased a new Upper Deck hobby box at the show and ventured to the UD corporate booth to receive an autographed Priority Signings card. For the show this upcoming weekend, collectors can expect more of the same.

To participate in the Priority Signing wrapper redemption program, collectors in attendance need to purchase a hobby hockey box of 2012-13 O-Pee Chee, 2012-13 Artifacts, or 2012-13 Upper Deck Series One from a Certified Diamond Dealer at the show to receive a voucher. They can bring that voucher to the Upper Deck booth at specified times where they can exchange it, along with the wrappers from the box, for a random 2012 NHL Priority Signings autograph card for free.
