We all dream about the possibility… and here it is in the headlines. A football card valued at $10,000 has been discovered in a Michigan home!
A mid-1890s card of Harvard football player John Dunlop is considered by many experts to be the rarest football card in existence. As there are only approximately 10 John Dunlop cards known to exist, it’s no surprise that one has been valued at $18,000US. A mint condition Dunlop would probably push over $60,000US at auction.
The 1894 set put out by Mayo Tobacco was the first set ever dedicated to football players. As there was no National Fooball League at that period in time, the set focused on the USA’s 35 best Ivy League players.
The Dunlop card was among other cards presented to a local Michigan dealer earlier this month which were discovered in the attic of a home.
According to reports, the Dunlop card will be sold at Robert Edward Auctions in May 2012.
