Bobby Orr set the bar for offensive defensemen in the NHL. His 260 goals, including 46 scored in a single season, have not been matched by many. Orr thrilled fans in Boston and led the Bruins to Stanley Cup victories in 1970 and 1972. During his time in the league, Orr racked up an impressive collection of awards and won the Norris Trophy for eight consecutive years.

In 1976, Orr was selected to represent his nation for the first time at the 1976 Canada Cup tournament. Orr’s knee, ravaged by operations every summer, was virtually without cartilage. He had played only 10 games with the Bruins the previous season before requiring more surgery and rehabilitation, but he refused to allow injury to prevent him from playing in the inaugural Canada Cup, the first best-on-best, featuring Canada and Europe.

Bobby Orr came out strong and in the first game, an 11-2 win over Finland, he had three assists. Next, in a 4-2 win over the U.S., he added two more assists. The best-of-three finals pitted the Canadians against Czechoslovakia, and Canada began with an impressive 6-0 win in which Orr scored twice, including a goal that came on his trade-mark rush down the right wing when he potted one over the glove of netminder Vladimir Dzurilla. After Canada’s historic victory in the second and final outing, Bobby Orr, who led Canada with nine points, was named the tournament MVP.

Classic Auction’s upcoming Fall 2011 Auction will feature more than 1,000 lots but there is one that will draw massive media attention.

Bobby Orr’s Team Canada 1976 Canada Cup Game-Worn Jersey – Photo-Matched!

This wondrous white knit with the heavily-screened rubberized red name, numbers and Team Canada demi-leaf design was worn by Bobby Orr throughout the international tourney. The shirt is tagged in the neck by Athletic Knit, in size 46 with Orr’s surname across the back shoulders above his famed number “4”.

The jersey was loaned at one point to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and comes complete with a copy of a letter from Bobby Orr and officials of the Hall attesting to its display in the Hall of Fame.

Classic Auctions Fall 2011 Auction will be online in one week.

From Topps:

With the release of the movie ‘Moneyball’ starring Brad Pitt, Topps has loaded its Facebook site with baseball cards of the main players and management featured in the movie. Check it out.

From Panini:

Panini America officials announced yesterday that the company has completely sold out of 2010-11 Dominion Hockey after just one week on the market.

From In The Game:

In The Game has announced that their upcoming Ultimate Memorabilia 11th Edition will contain randomly inserted Ultimate Giveaway Cards. These cards will be inserted to replace the base card of the pack in which they are found.

There are ten different Ultimate Giveaway cards. Each Ultimate Giveaway card depicts a different piece of game-used memorabilia on the front of the card. There are six of each of these cards inserted into the product, each one is a different colour.

For example, there are six different Ultimate Giveaway cards depicting a game-used Brett Hull San Jose All-Star game-used jersey, each one of the six cards is a different colour.

Each Ultimate Giveaway card qualifies collectors to win a chance for an authentic piece of game-used memorabilia from In The Game. In April 2012, at the Spring Expo in Toronto at the In The Gameland booth, ITG will spin their In The Game wheel to see who wins the game-used memorabilia. If the colour on the wheel matches the card submitted, that collector will receive the game-used memorabilia.
